The Various Types of Sports, Their Benefits, and the Problems They Face
Sports have been for years on end considered a co-curriculum activity in most countries in the world with the exemption of just a few. There are very many types of sports that people can take part in such as football, rugby, cricket, hockey, netball, basketball, and so many more. Each sport has its own specific set of rules that direct how the game is to be played. There are also different ways of scoring in each sport as well as different methods used to determine the winner of a particular match or tournament.
While most people take part in sports solely for the fun of it, there are others who view it as a competitive activity and strive to excel in it so as to win medals and trophies. Nonetheless, there are several benefits that come with playing sports regardless of whether one is competing or not. These benefits include but are not limited to improving one’s fitness levels, developing teamwork skills, and gaining leadership experience.
Unfortunately, just like anything else in life, playing sports also comes with its own fair share of problems. Some of these problems include doping, losing games, and supporters getting violent. In this essay, we are going to take a closer look at each of these problems as well as some possible solutions to them.
2. The Various Types of Sports
As aforementioned, there are very many types of sports that people can take part in. This section will provide a brief overview of some of the most popular ones so as to give the reader a better understanding of what playing sports entails.
2. 1 Football
Football is perhaps the most popular sport in the world with millions of people all over the globe supporting various teams. It is also one of the oldest sports having been played for centuries now. The game is normally played between two teams each consisting of eleven players including the goalkeeper. The aim of the game is to score goals by kicking the ball into the opponent’s net. The team that scores the most goals within the stipulated time wins the match.
2. 2 Rugby
Rugby is another very popular sport that is similar to football except for a few key differences. For starters, rugby is normally played with an oval-shaped ball instead of a round one. Additionally, rugby players are allowed to carry the ball in their hands and run with it as opposed to football where players can only kick the ball and are not allowed to touch it with their hands except for the goalkeeper. Similar to football, the team that scores more tries (the equivalent of goals in football) wins the match.
2. 3 Cricket
Cricket is yet another widely popular sport especially in countries such as England and India where it originated from. The game is played between two teams each consisting of eleven players including the wicket-keeper who acts as the equivalent of a goalkeeper in football. The aim of the game is for one team to score more runs than the other team within a given period of time and thereby win the match. Runs are scored by hitting the ball with a bat and then running between two stumps (wickets) placed at either end of a pitch while avoiding being dismissed by members of the opposing team who act as fielders and bowlers respectively./p>

4. The Various problems faced by sports people
Unfortunately, just like anything else in life, playing sports also comes with its own fair share of problems. Some of these problems include doping, losing games, and supporters getting violent. In this section, we are going to take a closer look at each of these problems.
4. 1 Doping
Doping is perhaps the most serious problem faced by sports people today. It refers to the use of banned drugs or performance-enhancing substances by athletes in order to improve their performance. Doping is considered to be very unfair as it gives those who use such substances an unnatural and unfair advantage over their opponents who do not use them. This often leads to the winner of a particular match or tournament being decided not on pure sporting talent but on who has access to better drugs.
4. 2 Losing games
Losing games is another problem faced by sports people especially those who take part in competitive sports. This is because losing a game often leads to disappointment and frustration among players as well as their supporters. In some cases, it can even lead to violence. This is why it is important for players to learn how to deal with disappointment and frustration in a constructive manner so as to avoid any negative consequences.
4. 3 Supporters getting violent
Violent supporters are yet another problem faced by sports people. This is because such supporters often cause damage to property and injure other people. In some cases, they have even been known to cause fatalities. This is why it is important for security to be tight during sporting events so as to avoid any untoward incidents./p>
